In a suburban neighborhood in South Korea, a woman owns a dog with a peculiar behavior. The dog enjoys digging holes in the backyard. The woman would usually and immediately fill up any pit the dog digs.
Then one day, the woman found another hole. But this time, the dog hid in the pit for more than three days. The woman could not get her dog out of the pit. She did not have the heart to fill up the hole for now.
The dog’s reason for digging the tunnel
After a few days, the woman checked on her dog again. To her surprise, the dog dug another hole a few feet away from the first hole. The woman approached for a closer look.
The dog did not make two holes. When the dog entered the first hole, the woman saw its head peering through the second hole. The second hole connects to the first hole. Amazingly, the dog made a tunnel in her backyard.
The woman can’t imagine why her dog would want to dig a tunnel. Her dog had the whole yard to itself. To add to her confusion, her dog spends a lot of time in her tunnel.
Out of curiosity, the woman asked for assistance from an animal center. The animal center came with a remote camera. The camera could go into the tunnel and expose what was inside. The operator inserted the camera while the dog was inside the tunnel.
Slowly, the camera revealed the interior of the tunnel. At first, the camera could only see the dog’s body. Then, to the surprise of the woman, she saw several puppies huddled inside.
The team brought a veterinarian with them. To be sure of the dogs’ condition, they had to get them all out of the tunnel. The rescuers pulled out seven puppies. The veterinarian found all the puppies healthy.
Accepting the puppies to the family
Then the dog carried her puppies back to the hole one by one. She felt her puppies would be safe inside. The owners understood and allowed the dog to keep her tunnel. Anyway, when the puppies grew bigger, they will eventually leave the hole.
The woman and her husband made a roof over the tunnel to protect it from the rain and prevent water from filling up the hole. In the end, the dogs and their owners lived happily together.
