Ubaldo Apolinar heard scratching on the door one rainy morning, so he decided to see what it was. He saw a little puppy shivering and sheltering herself in the corner part of the front door.
Ubaldo rushed back inside to get some of his own dog’s food to give to the puppy, and the pup happily ate it. He recalled that the little pup backed away a little bit when he tried to approach her, but she quickly began to trust him as soon as he started petting her.
Ubaldo had no idea where the little puppy came from, but he had to find the puppy’s owners because he hoped somebody would do the same for him if his dog ever got lost. He immediately joined community groups on Facebook and told everywhere that he had found a pup with a pink collar around her neck outside his door.
Ubaldo knew it would take a while before he finds the puppy’s owners, so he ensured that she was cleaned and well-fed. He tried talking to his mom about letting the dog in, but she disagreed because they were only allowed to have one pet, and they already had one big German Shepherd named Rocky.
Ubaldo said that his parents could not risk getting caught since their landlord is also their neighbor, so he built a makeshift house for the puppy out of an old shoebox. He recalled that he and his sister often hung out and played with the pup out on the porch every afternoon because they did not want her to feel alone.
Ubaldo eventually received a text message claiming to be the puppy’s owner. He initially hoped to keep the pup because he already got attached to her, but he was glad that the dog is finally with her real family.
