Fatima is a woman who wanted to foster a dog. She found the perfect opportunity when she saw a dog online.
Fatima saw this Pitbull dragging himself on the floor. The dog had no use of his hind legs, and she thought that the dog had Swimmer’s Syndrome. Swimmer’s Syndrome is a condition that leaves a canine with walking difficulties. The affected dog would often be flat on the floor because of the condition.

Fatima pitied the dog named Cantu that she decided to foster him. She drove four hours to New York to get him. When Fatima first saw Cantu, he was very tiny. Cantu looked so fragile that Fatima was determined to take good care of him and help him out.
Fatima immediately started Cantu on his physical therapy. He had underwater swimming to help strengthen his legs. Fatima’s assumption that Cantu had Swimmer’s Syndrome was proven wrong. Fatima noticed that one of her dogs would bite Cantu on his rear side, but he would not react.
Fatima thought it best to bring Cantu to a neurologist. That’s when she found out that he would be paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of his life. Even with his disability, Cantu has a positive attitude. He would even do things on his own like bringing blankets to Fatima.
When he does bring them, he does not want any help from anyone. He would do it himself. Every time Cantu does this, he feels accomplished, and that makes him feel better.
Because of Cantu, Fatima was inspired to start a rescue organization on his behalf. Because of Cantu, The Cantu Foundation was born. Now Fatima has helped a lot of dogs with health issues, and disabilities get a home. Cantu inspired all the things that she did. She’s looking forward to helping more dogs in the future.
